There has been a string of Red Dot sights flood the market recently. Most of them look the same, but they don’t all act the same. Which makes a Sig Romeo 5 Review necessary to explain just how great the Sig Red Dot is. The Sig Romeo 5 is one of these red dot sights that stand out above the crowd when comparing price to value.

Things that stand out

You can read all the specs and features in this Sig Romeo 5 review, but without real-life experience, it’s hard to understand why the Sig Romeo 5 is worth buying. There are lots of features that you don’t realize how great they are until you’ve used this red dot.

MOTAC

To start with it has Motion Activated Illumination(MOTAC). Which means when you grab your rifle the optic turns itself on. This is a huge bonus for you if you keep your rifle for self-defense. No one wants to be fiddling around in the middle of the night trying to turn on your optics when you think someone has broken into your house.

The other side of the MOTAC is that it also shuts off after not moving for a couple minutes. This means when you forget to turn it off after a long day at the range you don’t have to worry about a dead battery, next time you go out shooting.

2 MOA DOT

The 2 MOA dot of the Sig Romeo 5 is the perfect size for easily seeing your target quickly. Even for old eyes, it’s still big enough to quickly see the dot. This is great for close moving targets and finding your target quickly.

However, it’s not so big that if you choose to stretch your shooting out a little bit and do some long-range shooting the dot doesn’t cover the whole target. If you recall what MOA is you’ll remember that a 2 MOA dot is only going be 2″ at 100 yards. About the standard grouping of freehand shooting for the average shooter.

Brightness Settings

With 10 brightness settings, you don’t have to worry about shooting in the bright summer sun and not seeing your dot. In fact, I have no problems seeing mine in full sunlight while wearing sunglasses. On the flip side, you can easily turn the brightness down so it’s not reflecting in the scope and giving you a ring of red in dim light. This makes for a great all-around optic.

Mounting

The Sig Romeo 5 comes with two different M1913 mounts. A low profile mount perfect for keeping you sit close to the barrel and leaving you with a low sightline. The second mount is 1.41″ perfect for co-witnessing with standard AR iron sights. The nice bonus is that it also comes with a Torx wrench to tighten the mount up on one side and a flat on the other side to adjust your site.

Competitors

While the Sig Romeo 5 definitely an amazing red dot sight, it is not the only red dot sight on the market, even in its price range. There cheaper ones with less quality and there are more expensive ones with equal quality.

However, even if you look that the Primary Arms 2MOA red dot, the Vortex Crossfire Red Dot, or the Holosun Micro Red Dot, none of them have all the features of the Romeo 5. All of them being slightly more expensive, and of like quality. In fact, the Holosun is the only other one that has automatic shut off and turn on, but with a price tag of $40 more.

Conclusion

While there are plenty of Red Dots for sale on the market. The Sig Romeo 5 is one of the best in its price range. Maybe even better than some of the higher-priced models. For clarity and ease of use, you’ll never complain you didn’t get more than your money’s worth. With the MOTAC feature, you’ll never have to worry if you turned it off. Making having a spare battery around more of an insurance policy than a necessity. So if you’re in the market for a red dot go out and pick up a Sig Romeo 5 you won’t be disappointed.
